Basil Rathbone’s telegram to Nigel Bruce who at the time was suffering from a severe bout of depression.
Despite my personal feelings towards Bruce’s portrayal, I can’t help but smile while reading this and as I understand it, Bruce credited Rathbone for saving his life during those dark days. It’s rather amazing to consider how so many Holmes and Watson actors developed such intimate friendships due to Conan Doyle’s work.
